North East Bosnian Community
The Bosnian Genocide Educational Trust acts as a hub and base for the North East Bosnian community, organising and leading all commemorative and social activities across the region. Furthermore, the trust will host an oral history and archive project, established in 2016 by Smajo Beso, to provide insight to the North East Bosnian community. The project includes testimonies (oral accounts and written), artefacts (photographs, videos, objects) books, newspapers articles and other research significant to the local Bosnian community.
We strongly believe that not only must we remember our history and journey to the UK but we must also celebrate this part of our history and the contributions that we have made to this region. This project will not only preserve but also celebrate and promote of the Bosnian community here in the North East. The archive is currently entirely in electronic format although there are plans to set up a permanent physical location in the future to act as an educational base through which we can offer educational workshops, public programmes, historical resource and record.
