In That One Day

In that one day
I saw myself in you
And you saw yourself in me.
You really listened
And heard my story
You saw I was safe
And risked everything
Doing more than just hearing
More than just looking
You acted
And in one day
Changed my life
And many others
Because - You acted
And showed a belief in peace
You decided I mattered,
And could see what was happening
Could hear what was happening
That we could be your Sister, Nephew, Daughter,
Pregnant wife, Girlfriend, Grandmother,
Father, Uncle, Son.
You began to understand
My trauma, my tiny fragments of life
Still clinging to my fragile skin
Holding my heart from slipping
Into depths beyond my being
The sliding doors hadn’t yet opened
Our crumbling paths hadn’t yet crossed
Until that day, that one day
When all did change
You saw I was safe
And risked everything
Doing more than just hearing
You acted
And in one day
Changed my life
And many others
You acted
An everlasting act of peace
